We stayed in the home of John Rutledge, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, a writer of the United States Constitution, the Governor of South Carolina and a U. S. Supreme Court Justice. His home now offers rooms for guests.

Every afternoon, in the ballroom and on the balcony, there would be a time for “High-Tea” where we were offered cakes and scones along with Port and Brandy - a custom of the South.
